One common view holds that that the human neocortex consists of a single, massively-repeated, \"canonical\" computation (Creutzfeldt, 1977; George & Hawkins, 2009; Hawkins & Blakeslee, 2007; Kurzweil, 2012; Mountcastle, 1978).
